Shepherd's Pie
Ingredients:
1lb ground beef or lamb
1/4 carrots, chopped
1/4c onions, chopped
1lb potatoes
2tbsp yogurt or cream
1pc eggyolk
1pc egg, beaten
1 1/2tbsp butter
1/4c flour
1/2 to 1c beef stock or broth
1tbsp cooking oil
2tbsp worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste
Procedure
- boil potatoes until tender. Peel off skin and mash it. Add eggyolk and cream, mix until potates are smooth.
- while boiling potatoes, heat oil in a pan and saute onions. Add beef or lamb. Cook until tender. (spoon off excess fat) Add carrots and cook for another 3 minutes.
- for the gravy, heat oil in a pan and add butter. Add flour and let it brown. Add beef stock and worcestershire sauce. Stir until creamy. Pour over strainer to remove lumps. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add more beef stock or broth as needed.
- transfer beef or lamb in an over proof dish. Top with mashed potato and spread evenly. Brush with beaten egg. (top with shredded cheddar cheese, optional). Bake in preheated broiler until mashed potatoes turn brown. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot with gravy.
